Make these wonderful Purse Cards to convey your sentiment to friends and family. They’re easy to make using small scraps of ribbon and embellishments you may have around your craft area. Let your imagination go wild on this project.
Everyone loves these cute little purses and I keep plenty of fun examples around the store (see photo of store display below).
Materials needed:
- Fabricy Ribbon, other bits of ribbon for the top, small buttons, paper flowers, punched items, fringe, mesh and whatever else you have scraps of.
- Fabric glue (quick drying is the best)
- Tacky glue
- 3 long pins
- Cork pad
- Card stock
- Stamps of choice
Basic Method:
- Ribbon - Use fabricy ribbon because wired ribbon just lays flat and is twice as expensive and paper ribbon just snaps in half.
- Fabric glue and Tacky glue – Use fabric glue to put the purse together and on the front trim because it does not stain the fabric. Use tacky on the back to hold it on the card. You do not need a lot of glue to put it together or to add your embellishments.
- Cut about 2 3/4" of ribbon for the base. Cut about 3” for the handle. Cut about 2” for the top trim.
- For the purse base, put a line of fabric glue down the inside top and close. Then 1/2 way into the outside middle put a dab of fabric glue and pinch it with your fingers there. This creates the poof.
- Pin it on a cork board in the middle and on both ends and set aside to dry.
- Glue with fabric glue on the front, bits of trim and wrap around to the back. Pin on cork board and let dry.
- Use tacky glue to glue heavy items such as buttons.
- Use fabric glue to glue the handle onto the back of the purse. Glue one side on at a time letting each side dry before attaching the other. If gluing a pearl string handle on it does not want to bend so use Tacky glue, again gluing one side on at a time, let the first side dry fully. When that side is dry glue the other side on and criss-cross pins over it on the cork board till it dries.
- Stamp card with your desired sentiment.
- Use tacky glue on the back to glue the purse onto the card. Glue just at the base of the handle and place onto the card.
